This painting was done from a number of sketches done while on holiday near Calne on the Roseland peninsula in southern Cornwall in October. From my vantage point on the top of a wind swept field I had a view out over the entire bay and could watch the crowding waves follow each other in big white arks. Beyond the bay a jigsaw pattern of dark brown and green fields, and a stormy sky adding drama and interest to the scene. Both the sky and the waves provided an ever changing drama.
